The U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a final rule on July 31, which extended the deadline for the implementation of the tenth revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), from October 1, 2014 to October 1, 2015. The final rule requires the continued use of ICD-9 through September 30, 2015. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) is updating the CMS 1500 claim form in anticipation of the upcoming changes to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) system. Yesterday the Department of Health and Human Services announced a proposed rule that would delay the implementation of the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition, diagnosis and procedure code (ICD-10) from October 1, 2013 to October 1, 2014. The proposed rule is in response to providers’ concerns about meeting HHS’ compliance deadline for Version 5010 |
